As part of ARIZONA’S HOMETOWN RADIO GROUP, the station is one of a ten station group owned and managed by the Cohens, who have been broadcasting in Arizona since 1985.
KPPV is the first radio station ever licensed to Prescott Valley, AZ launching on September 1, 1985. Our call letters/dial position was KIHX 106.3 FM and our slogan was “I get my Kicks on 106 FM!”
Our first antenna was mounted on a telephone pole next to our first studio at the corner of Robert Rd. and Jacque Dr. The total population of Prescott Valley at that time was 3200. Our signal could not be heard outside of town.
In June of 1986, our antenna was moved to the top of Glassford Hill and became the first solar powered FM radio station in the USA! We could now be heard in the Quad Cities.
January, 1992 saw our main antenna move for the third and final time to Mt. Francis where both our call letters and dial position changed to the present KPPV 106.9 FM. The solar site on Glassford Hill still serves as an auxiliary transmitter site.
From the original staff of three we have gradually expanded to employ 20 people supporting KPPV and the AZ Hometown Radio Group.
In February of 2009, we began service to Flagstaff on 100.7 FM.
We also operate an FM Booster for KPPV on Mingus Mountain to cover Cottonwood.
From the original 3200, KPPV now serves over 250,000 potential listeners and many, many more via live streaming worldwide at KPPV.com.
